Navigation and location-based services are at the core of any IVI system and maps and
geodetic data are big business. OpenStreetMap (OSM) also known as the Wikipedia of
Maps has rapidly developed into a serious contender for commercial map data as well as
Google Maps. Driven by crowdsourcing and built on data collected by thousands of volunteer
contributors two-dimensional map data has now reached a level of density and precision in
an increasing number of areas of the world that local communities have begun to collect 3D
data. In his keynote Mr. Strassenburg-Kleciak will provide insight into OSM and the new 3D
data collection efforts. He will analyze how sensors of modern cars and mobile phones can be
utilized to support 3D data collection.
